# Data products are the primary architecture unit

The lakehouse architecture is organized around data products rather than tables, pipelines, or workspaces. A data product is the unit where ownership, contracts, governance, lineage, quality, freshness, and agent-facing semantics come together; tables and pipelines are assets and mechanisms inside that boundary. This supports the target data-agent mesh, where agents discover governed data products first and then inspect the allowed assets, metadata, lineage, and actions.
