# Pre-1.0 product contracts are draft

Data product contract versions below 1.0.0 are draft and not live. They may
introduce breaking changes during normal Git review without major-version
promotion ceremony, migration notes, consumer impact analysis, or a deprecation
window.

Version 1.0.0 is the first live compatibility baseline for a data product
contract. Once a data product contract reaches 1.0.0, semantic-versioning
compatibility rules apply: patch and minor changes must remain compatible, and
major-breaking changes require owner approval, consumer impact analysis,
migration notes, and a deprecation window.

This applies to data product contract versions, not authored contract schema
versions or runtime-served contract view schema versions. Those format-version
clocks remain separate per ADR 0006.
