# Reading Data: Follower Read

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Follower Read feature can share the reading operation workload of the Leader, and its implementation methods are mainly:

- When a TiDB server sends a read request to a Follower node, the Follower asks the Leader node to get the sequence number (commit index) of the latest committed Raft Log.
- The Leader node informs the Follower node of its current commit index, and if the Follower finds that it has not yet applied the Raft Log with this index, it will wait.
- Until the Follower confirms that the local has applied the commit index sent by the Leader, the Follower and Leader determine that they have synchronized, and then the data is read and returned to the TiDB server.
