TiKV nodes periodically report two types of heartbeat messages to PD: Store Heartbeat and Region Heartbeat. The Store Heartbeat contains the basic information of the store, capacity, remaining disk volume, reads and writes traffic, etc. Region Heartbeat contains data such as the region range, replica distribution, replica status, data volume, and reads and writes traffic. PD organizes this information and stores it for scheduling to make decisions.
