# Basic Syntax for `SELECT`

+ **`SELECT`** is the most commonly used SQL statement
  + Retrieves rows from a table
  + Returns rows in the form of a two-dimensional table
+ **`column_list`** is a list of column names that make up the result set
  + Separate items in the list with commas **`,`**
  + Use an **`*`** to include all columns
```
~!@SELECT@!~ [{clause_options}] {column_list}
    [~!@FROM@!~ {table_name}]
    [~!@WHERE@!~ {condition}]
    [~!@ORDER BY@!~ {order_by_list}]
    [~!@LIMIT@!~ [{offset}] {count}];
```

Note: In a real-world environment, queries using SELECT * are prohibited. It is recommended to select the appropriate column column according to your needs, to prevent direct SELECT * from reading all the fields, reduce network bandwidth consumption, and make efficient use of the index.
