# Modifying `SQL` Mode

__*SQL_MODE*__

+ If the value of the `SQL` mode is empty or contains more than one value, it must be enclosed in quotation marks
  + **`SET sql_mode = ''`**
+ If the value contains a single name, the quote is optional
  + **`SET sql_mode = ANSI_QUOTES`**
+ If **`GLOBAL`** or **`SESSION`** is not specified, the default value is **`SESSION`**
+ `SQL` mode values are case-insensitive

------------------------------------------------------------
`SET [ SESSION | GLOBAL ] sql_mode='<modes>'` Set the `SQL` mode.

When setting a `GLOBAL` level SQL mode, the user needs to have `SUPER` privilege, and only new connections established after setting the `SQL` mode are affected (note: existing connections are not affected). `SESSION` level `SQL` mode changes only affect the current client.

Setting the global variable specifies the default `SQL` mode for all subsequent client connections. Setting the session variable affects only the current client, until it disconnects. Any client can change its own session `sql_mode` value at any time. When neither `GLOBAL` nor `SESSION` is specified, the default is `SESSION`.

Some `SQL` mode values are combination modes that enable a set of modes. Values in this category include `ANSI` and `TRADITIONAL`.
