# Why TiDB
+ Seamless scalability
+ Built in High Availability and Disaster Recovery
+ A horizontal scalable NoSQL database with SQL (MySQL) and transaction compatibility
+ Auto sharding
+ Big Data capability with zero efforts
+ Data agility with growing pain eliminated

--------------------------------------------
Seamless scalability: In TiDB, no matter the component is stateless or stateful, they are decoupled with each other, and support horizontal scalibility.

Built in HA and DR: For those stateful components, replication is supported, you can achieve HA and Disaster Recovery easily by deploying multiple such components, for those stateless components, it’s even easier, no replication is needed. Mostly importantly, there is no need to take any extra work to setup and configure, you gain the high availability and disaster recovery out of the box.

A horizontal scalable NoSQL database with SQL and transaction compatibility: By using TiDB, you gain the benefits of NoSQL and SQL at the same time. And your database can grow into a massive magnitude that MySQL cannot image.

By using TiDB, by using standard SQL only, you have the ticket to the Big Data party, no ETL or Extract/Transformation/Load required. TiDB can almost store and retrieve any amount of data, and it provides both row-based store and columnar store, suitable for OLTP and OLAP at the same time. I will cover it in more detail in this course later.
