The general process for upgrading is as follows:

1. Review compatibility changes. If any changes affect your upgrade, take actions accordingly.

2. Upgrade `TiUP`.

3. Edit `TiUP` topology configuration file: If the cluster parameters are modified for the new version, you need to modify the configuration file.

4. Check the DDL and backup status of the cluster. There should be no cluster DDLs and backups running when performing upgrade.

5. Check the health status of the current cluster: To avoid undefined behavior or other failures during the upgrade process, it is recommended to check the current region health of the cluster before upgrading, which can be done with the check subcommand.

6. Upgrade the `TiDB` cluster: There are two ways to upgrade: non-disruptive upgrades and downtime upgrades. `TiUP` Cluster The default way to upgrade a `TiDB` cluster is to upgrade a `TiDB` cluster without downtime, that is, the cluster can still provide external services during the upgrade process.

7. Post-upgrade verification: Execute the display command to view the latest cluster version, `TiDB` Version.
