# Connection Characteristics of TiDB Server

After deploying TiDB Cluster, we can discuss how to connect to the TiDB database. As shown in the following figure, our TiDB database is responsible for connecting to the client with TiDB-Server. Here are 2 features of TIDB—Server that deserve our attention:

The first is support for the MySQL protocol, which means that any client that supports the MySQL protocol can connect to TIDB-Server.

Second, because TIDB-Server itself is only responsible for SQL, the compute engine does not store data, so TIDB-Server is stateless. When our system faces a large number of concurrent connections, we can load balance by adding TiDB-Server to improve the high concurrent processing capacity.

Overall, there are two main characteristics of a TiDB database connection: 1. Stateless; 2.MySQL protocol support.
