# Increase Node Size

__*TiDB Cloud increases node size*__

+ Increase node size with backup and restore
+ Increase the size of a node with support tickets

-------------------------------------------------------------

You cannot increase the node size of a cluster while it is running. To make such a change, use one of the following method:

Method 1: Increase node size with backup and restore

You need to create a recent backup of the cluster, delete the cluster, and then increase the node size when you restore the deleted cluster. Before using this method, make sure the following effects are acceptable:

To avoid losing any data during or after a backup, you need to stop the connection to the cluster through the SQL client before you create the backup.
After you stop connecting to a cluster, applications running on the cluster will not be able to service properly until the restore process is complete.

Method 2: Increase the node size with support tickets

Follow the steps in TiDB Cloud Support to create a support ticket. For each scale out want to scale, provide the following information in the Description box of the ticket:

    Cluster name: xxx
    Cloud provider: GCP or AWS
Node type: TiDB, TiKV, or TiFlash
    Current node size: xxx
    Expected node size: xxx
