# `PARAMETER::` The Benefits of Using Partitioned Tables
+ Each partition contains rows that adhere to the partition rules, thus reducing full table scan by partition pruning
+ Improve query performance by parallelism
+ Enhance manageability by storage isolation and tiering

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are three main reasons why utilizing partitioned tables is advantageous:

1. Reduce full table scan by partition pruning:
Reduced table scanning: Partitioning allows queries to scan only the relevant partitions if the query can filter on the partitioning column, significantly reducing the amount of data that needs to be processed. This leads to faster query execution times.

2. Improve query performance by parallelism:
Partitions can be searched in parallel by multiple TiKV processes, further accelerating query performance and balance the resource usages on TiKV distributed system.

3. Enhanced Manageability:
Instead of using tables, partitions can serve as a more granular approach for tasks such as:
- Data retention and archiving: Older partitions can be easily removed to manage data growth, while newer partitions remain active.
- Data deletion: Deleting rows based on a specific partition is faster than deleting from the table. DDL statement such as `ALTER TABLE ... TRUNCATE/DROP PARTITION ...`, is way more efficient than DML statement `DELETE FROM ... WHERE ...`.
