# Tips


+ Disable `GC` when you want to recover data (user accidentally drops table) or investigate data corruptions (index & data inconsistent, etc.)
  + **`UPDATE mysql.tidb SET variable_value = "1000h" WHERE variable_name = 'tikv_gc_life_time'`**
  + **`SET @@global.tidb_gc_life_time = '1000h'`**  (since `v5.0`)
+ ... and do NOT forget to set it back when you are done
