# Skill repository maintenance rules

- New repository templates place only `README.md` under `skills/`; they do not create a default skill from the repository name.
- Put future skills under `skills/<skill-directory>/`. Each skill directory must include `SKILL.md` with `name` and `description` frontmatter; `name` is display text, while the directory name is only the path-safe storage location.
- `README.md` is the repository-level index and maintenance entry point; update its Skill index after importing, deleting, or renaming skills.
- External import replaces the `skills/` directory and should not overwrite repository-level `README.md` or `AGENTS.md`.
- Keep long background material, examples, and external-system notes under each skill's `references/` directory instead of expanding `SKILL.md`.
