# 2021-04-11-15:50:37+0800 stop tidb-operator to pause the cluster rolling-update

- Cause: Due to a bug of our application, a customer's cluster was rolling-updated after the customer performed a scaling operation (cluster id: 1311285575352848384), to mitigate the impact, we decided to stop the tidb-operator of that cluster to pause the rolling-update
- Operation:

```
> kubectl get deployment -n tidb-admin tidb-controller-manager -o yaml > backup.yaml
# edit the deployment, set .spec.replicas to 0
> kubectl edit -n tidb-admin deployment tidb-controller-manager
```

- Impact: Rolling-update will be paused, other operations like failover and status update of that cluster will not be performed neither.
- Recovery operation: `kubectl apply -f backup.yaml`
